Dark Love

Once there was a love like light
Whose tiny flame lit up the night
A candle slowly losing height

But though that candle stood so tall
The light that it gave off was small
And that low flame was doomed to fall

When darkness came with claws of steel
Ripping wounds no love could heal
With pain no mortal ought to feel

Under such strife the candle fell
Descending to the depths of hell
A tiny whisper its death knell

No love no longer there could be
Darkness far as eye could see
Nowhere left for light to flee

Only light that melts away
The darkness into light of day
Could with that darkness ever stay

Or else a darkness just as deep
And down that path the way is steep
Where darkness will its secrets keep

Only these and nothing more
Could such a soul of darkness core
Ever hold; Ever adore
